Instructional Design Bootcamp
Instructional Designer at True Group, Inc.
Maggie transitioned from a winding career path into her first instructional design role, where her nonprofit client project and polished portfolio opened the door to designing training for big clients like McDonald’s.
Maggie Teper walked a nonlinear path—tourism, teaching abroad, a master’s in education, sales, and contract work—before honing in on instructional design. She recognized the missing piece: a portfolio and technical know-how in tools like Storyline.
“I knew I needed a portfolio. I knew I needed to learn the tech. But it felt like such a giant, daunting task."
What followed was a pivotal moment: enrolling in Peck Academy and committing to building her skills. This choice propelled her toward her current role at True Group, Inc., where she now designs training for clients like McDonald’s.
Maggie’s experience in the program provided structure, expert feedback, and accountability, which is exactly what she needed to bring her plans to life. She began with the Storyline Project Lab and progressed to a real-world flagship project, supported the whole time by her team and mentor.
“As soon as I started, it was like, 'This was exactly what I needed!'”
Her project, Pawsitive Practices for Successful Sessions, was designed for the nonprofit Pawsitive Friendships.
The eLearning experience helps volunteers navigate challenging behaviors during animal therapy sessions.
Maggie immersed herself in the subject matter: meeting with the founder and SMEs, surveying volunteers, and even observing sessions, to ensure her design was realistic and impactful.
She blended scenario-based storytelling, learner choice, and playful visuals in Storyline and Vyond, while also prioritizing accessibility. The end result sealed the deal at helping her get her foot in the door as an instructional designer.
"Revising based on thoughtful critique was the most powerful part of the program. It showed me how much better my work could be."
Maggie applied to 100 jobs before securing her first instructional design role.
It wasn’t easy—she faced auto-rejections and long stretches of silence—but she leaned on her mentors and peers, stayed resilient, and trusted the process.
By the time she interviewed with her current company, she felt confident answering tough questions, walking through her portfolio, and explaining her design process.
Now, she works as an instructional designer at a consulting firm, designing training for clients like McDonald’s.
Her role blends design, SME collaboration, and occasional facilitation—pulling together her teaching background and new design expertise.
“It took me over two months and 100 applications, but the right role came. The program prepared me for every step.”
"Before joining the Instructional Design Bootcamp, I felt lost in my career. My journey had been anything but linear—I started in tourism, transitioned into teaching abroad, and later earned a master’s in education. But after a short stint teaching in the U.S., I realized it wasn’t the right fit.
I explored online teaching and contract work, yet I struggled to see a clear path forward. Instructional design intrigued me, but I had no idea where to start or how to build a portfolio that would make me stand out.
The bootcamp provided exactly what I needed—a structured approach to building a portfolio with hands-on projects and expert feedback. The combination of self-paced learning and live support made all the difference. I wasn’t just watching tutorials; I was applying new skills in real-world scenarios.
The feedback I received helped me refine my work and gave me the confidence to present my projects professionally. Most importantly, the community was incredibly supportive. Connecting with others on the same journey made the process feel less overwhelming and more achievable.
Now, I can confidently say that this program transformed my career prospects. I went from feeling unsure about my next steps to having a polished portfolio that truly represents my skills.
Thanks to the bootcamp, I’ve landed opportunities I never thought possible, and I finally feel like I’m on the right path. If you’re considering instructional design but don’t know where to start, this program will give you the guidance, structure, and confidence to make it happen."
