Jonny went from a burned-out high school chemistry teacher to a Training Instructional Designer at NetJets, where he builds performance-focused training for pilots.

Jonny's flagship project, built in Articulate Storyline 360, is a scenario-based eLearning experience for frontline managers and team leaders who have to navigate interpersonal conflict on cross-functional teams. It is set at CloudCore Systems, a fictional engineering company dealing with recurring conflict inside its teams.
A simulated needs analysis, informed by research on psychological safety, leadership communication, and conflict resolution, showed that managers did not need more knowledge. They needed practice with difficult conversations. So the experience drops learners into realistic meetings, such as reading the room when an impatient senior engineer talks over a colleague, and lets them practice their response, get immediate feedback, and build the confidence to foster psychological safety before doing it on the job.
From Uncertain to Hired
Jonny's biggest struggle before the program was uncertainty: not knowing which path would actually lead to a new career. Peck Academy stood out because it was neither the long commitment of a master's degree nor the expense of the other programs he had researched, and it was built around doing the work.
Inside the program he worked with a dedicated ID mentor and a career mentor who gave him detailed feedback and encouragement when he needed it most. The project-based, feedback-oriented coursework let him move at his own pace, and the career preparation courses shaped his resume, his LinkedIn presence, and his interview approach. He credits that career coursework with making the difference between having instructional design skills and actually getting hired.
Jonny started the program in early February 2026 and finished in mid-August. He began applying and interviewing that same month, and right after graduating he accepted a Training Instructional Designer role at NetJets. There he works with other instructional designers and subject-matter experts to create performance-focused training, primarily for pilots, on-site for his first 90 days before moving to a hybrid schedule.
“I used to be a high school Chemistry teacher. I had graduated from college recently and had worked only a couple years until I started feeling really burnt out. Not that I didn't enjoy working with students and developing chemistry curriculum, but the workload and the context was just too much for me. So I sought out different options, trying to figure out if there was another career that I could get into. I was doing a lot of research into all sorts of careers, programs, bootcamps, certificates, and even thought about getting my masters. But all of these felt like either too much of a time commitment or too expensive, until I found Peck Academy.”
