Rebecca's flagship project follows a project manager through the settings they would actually work in, from the office to the construction site. The visual design is cohesive and professional without feeling cold, and the scenarios put the learner in front of the kinds of conversations and setbacks a project manager has to handle.
Small interactions do a lot of the immersive work. In one moment the learner watches the email inbox count tick up, then clicks the message to open it. It's a small detail that pulls the learner into the role rather than simply telling them about it.
From Burnout to Business Owner
In May of 2024, Rebecca quit teaching after 13 years. The constant extra roles piled on top of her own had started to affect her health and her family, and she knew it was time for something different. Pulled from her regular role to substitute yet again, she found herself searching for what she could do with her degree and skills outside a school. That search led her to Devlin Peck's videos and website.
During the program she joined two study groups that met to talk through the courses and keep each other on track. Those groups doubled as her first professional network in the field, and the members still support one another in their new roles. The ID Project Lab drew on the problem-solving instincts that had always pulled her toward needs assessment, and the Storyline course opened her eyes to how much a single tool could do for the learner.
Rebecca landed her first freelance client before she had finished the program. The supervisor had reviewed her portfolio and told her that her thought process and structure were exactly what they were looking for in the courses she now builds. Today she runs Land Among Stars Consulting & Design, working flexible hours around client deadlines and serving as both subject-matter expert and instructional designer on professional development courses for educators.
